The integration of thread forming processes in a fully-automated manufacturing solution on a stamping and forming machine offers users the possibility to join complex components together using screws. In this process, the thread is produced by forming the material using the servo-controlled GSE thread forming unit. In the prefabricated punched hole, the material is pressed to the side by the edges of the thread former, and is thrown up to form a burr. After multiple revolutions of the thread former, the burr takes the form of grooves.
The thread forming process is particularly well suited for materials with good formability and low tensile strength. With more robust tools, threads with smooth surface, high strength and high load resistance can be formed with the highest precision, because the material structure is not damaged.
