Introduction
Innospin delivers round and cylindrical components and was looking for a seal ring manufacturing solution that would optimize several aspects of their current process.
Challenge
Innospin was previously using a deep draw process and vertical press machines. They were hoping to achieve a stronger competitive position in the market by reducing material cost and usage, setup time, tooling cost, and manufactured part price.
Solution
Bihler recommended a combination of roll forming, laser welding and spin forming using their BM 306 servo machine to automate Innospin’s process for shaping, forming, and finishing seal rings, ensuring high precision and consistent quality in the final product. Innospin’s new BM 306 machine was equipped with Bihler’s VariControl VC 1 interface, enabling quick setup and allowing them to realize the benefits of increased efficiency sooner. Bihler’s team customized the VariControl VC 1 interface to fit Innospin’s specific application and processes, ensuring ease of use and minimal disruption to existing operations and employee workflows.
Conclusion
Bihler’s BM 306 servo machine improved Innopsin’s seal ring manufacturing process and delivered reduced part cost, lowered tooling cost per new part, faster development cycle, decreased production cost, shortened setup time and accomplished the following performance measurements:
- Raw material cost reduction of approximately 70%.
- 800% decrease in setup time.
- 75% reduction in development time.
